Dallas to Fort Lauderdale is a three-hour nonstop from DFW on American, JetBlue or Frontier, from Love Field on Southwest, and from November 19, 2026, from McKinney National on Avelo. Three airports, five airlines, and you gain an hour on the way back.

The nonstop flight

Block time is about three hours eastbound and a little more coming home. As listed for September 2026, DFW has nonstops on American (from its hub), JetBlue and Frontier; Love Field has Southwest, which is headquartered there; and Avelo begins flying from McKinney National, north of the city, on November 19, 2026. Dallas is an hour behind Fort Lauderdale.

Which Dallas airport to use

Choose by where you live and who you fly; all three will have FLL nonstops this winter.

How to choose

American’s DFW schedule is the deepest, which matters if you want a specific time or an easy rebooking. Love Field is the easy airport for anyone living inside the loop, and Southwest’s two free checked bags suit a beach trip. Frontier and, from November, Avelo will usually post the lowest base fares. Keep in mind that DFW is enormous; give yourself time for the Skylink train if your gate is in a different terminal from your check-in.

From FLL to the nest

This is where Fort Lauderdale earns its keep. FLL sits about fifteen minutes from the house on an ordinary day, one of the shortest airport-to-door drives of any Florida city. A rideshare or taxi straight from the terminal is the simple option; if you plan to explore the beaches and take day trips, pick up a rental car at the airport instead. Our airport tips cover the terminals and the ride-app pickup, the airport and Brightline guide has the train and shuttle details, and getting around covers the water taxi and whether you need a car at all.

When to come

December through April is the classic season, when the weather at home is at its worst and Fort Lauderdale is dry, sunny and in the seventies. Fares and the house book up around the holidays, Presidents’ Day and spring break, so reserve those early. May, early June, and the stretch from late October into early December offer near-identical weather with thinner crowds and lower fares. Our best-time-to-visit guide has the month-by-month picture.

What to do first

Drop the bags, swim, and let the trip start. Then the beach is ten minutes east, Las Olas is a short drive for dinner, and the water taxi stop is a walk away for a first look at the canals. The complete guide to Fort Lauderdale lays out a first day, and the map pins every place we mention.
