Some days the dog can't come along: an Everglades airboat, a museum afternoon, a cruise day. For those, two daycares within about 10 minutes of the house take new dogs after a short assessment, and groomers, self-serve dog washes and pet stores line Federal Highway and Sunrise Boulevard, most of them within 2 miles. Everything here was checked on each business's own site in September 2026; call ahead, since hours and prices change.

Dog daycare and boarding

Wilton's Manor Doggie Daycare, Resort & Spa (2155 N Dixie Hwy, Wilton Manors, (754) 223-4776) is about 1.5 miles from the house. It has a 900 sq ft indoor park for smaller dogs and a 1,200 sq ft shaded outdoor park with fans, misters and a dog pool. Every new dog takes a $25 behavior assessment, held at 8 am on weekdays (call about weekend times), and the fee can go toward that day's daycare. Daycare is $44 for one dog and $38 for each extra dog from the same family, as of September 2026. Hours are 7 am to 7 pm on weekdays and 9 am to 5 pm on Saturdays; on Sundays and holidays there are only boarding drop-offs and pick-ups, at 10 am or 5 pm. It also boards overnight and runs a shuttle for $20 each way within 5 miles.

Dogtopia of Fort Lauderdale Downtown (808 W Broward Blvd, (954) 763-4111), about 10 minutes away, offers daycare, boarding and spa services from 6 am to 8 pm on weekdays and 10 am to 5 pm on Saturdays; it is closed Sundays. New dogs start with a 20 to 30 minute Meet & Greet evaluation. Dogtopia has a second location, Fort Lauderdale Northeast, at 5435 N Federal Hwy.

Vaccines and paperwork

Both daycares require current rabies, distemper-parvo (DHPP or DHLPP) and Bordetella vaccines. Dogtopia takes dogs from 12 weeks old and requires spay or neuter after 7 months. Wilton's Manor requires spay or neuter for dogs over 12 months, plus signed waivers. Dogtopia says it can call your vet for records if you don't have them, but the fastest route is a PDF of the vaccine record on your phone. If a vaccine is close to expiring, update it at home before the trip, and book the assessment for the day before you need daycare rather than the morning of.

Pet sitters, and planning the day

Apps such as Rover and Wag list local sitters and dog walkers; read the reviews and meet the sitter first. If you are thinking about a sitter at the house, or about leaving the dog there while you go out, tell us about your pet (how many, what kind) when you book, and ask us about pet terms. For the days out themselves, see Everglades airboat tours, the Museum of Discovery and Science and getting to Port Everglades from the nest. If something goes wrong, emergency vets near Fort Lauderdale lists the 24-hour hospitals.
