A pre-cruise stay near Port Everglades

Sailing out of Fort Lauderdale? A lot of travelers arrive a day or two early to unwind and avoid a stressful same-day dash to the ship — a missed connection on embarkation morning can mean missing the sailing entirely, so the extra night is cheap insurance. The nest has a two-night minimum stay, so plan on arriving two days before you sail. The nest is a comfortable place to do exactly that, about ten minutes from Port Everglades.
Close to the port
The house is under a ten-minute drive from Port Everglades, so you can wake up unhurried and still make an easy trip to the terminal. Fort Lauderdale’s airport (FLL) is only a few minutes from both, which makes the fly-in, stay-a-night, sail-out plan about as simple as it gets. For the routes and timing from the house to the terminals, see getting to Port Everglades from the nest.
Know your terminal
Port Everglades is one of the busiest cruise homeports in the world, with terminals spread around the harbor; your terminal depends on the ship and can change sailing to sailing, so check your cruise documents before you go. The terminal guide explains the layout and the drop-off flow, and if you’re driving your own car, the parking guide covers the on-site garages and rates.
Last-minute essentials
Forgot something? A nearby plaza has a Dollar Tree and a Ross Dress for Less for anything from toiletries to clothes before you set sail, and a Publix is close for snacks, drinks and anything you want to bring aboard. It’s a lot easier to grab what you forgot the night before than to hunt for it on embarkation morning.
A place to gather
With room to spread out, the nest is a good spot for a family or group of cruisers to meet up, relax and spend some time together before the trip — three bedrooms, room for ten, and a backyard with a pool and grill for the night before. Several shuttle and car services run transfers to the port, so you can leave the car and arrive on time; a rideshare from the house is quick and cheap given the distance. If your group is all sailing together, the cruising as a group guide has tips for keeping a big party organized.
Make the extra day count
An early arrival isn’t just insurance — it’s a free day in Fort Lauderdale. Spend it at the beach or the pool, or see a bit of the city; the one day before a cruise guide lays out an easy, low-stress plan, and where to eat near the port covers dinner the night before. For the full rundown, the pre-cruise stay guide pulls it all together. Start the cruise rested, close to the water, and ready to go.
