Up to ten guests. There are three bedrooms with two king beds and one queen bed, plus two sleeper sofas, and a Pack 'n Play for a baby is always in the house. What time is check-in and check-out? Check-in is from 4:00 PM and check-out is by 11:00 AM. Self check-in uses a keypad code that we send before you arrive. Is the pool heated? Yes. The private pool is heated and has a shallow sun shelf for lounging or for small children, with deck chairs and loungers around it. Are pets allowed? Yes, pets are welcome. Free on-site parking for up to two cars. How far is the beach? Fort Lauderdale Beach is about ten minutes by car, and Hugh Taylor Birch State Park sits right behind it. The Intracoastal water taxi stops within walking distance of the house. How far are the airport and the cruise port? Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport is roughly 15 minutes by car and Port Everglades about the same, which is why many guests stay with us before or after a cruise. Is there fast Wi-Fi for working? Yes. Gig-speed Wi-Fi, a dedicated work desk, and a wireless printer and scanner available as an add-on. Longer corporate stays are welcome. Can we host an event, a shower or a photo shoot? Yes, by arrangement in advance. The house is used for showers, dinners, retreats, team offsites and photo or video shoots, and a PA system, projector and backyard screen can be added for a fee. See the Events and Retreats pages. Is the home accessible? It is a single-story house with no interior stairs and one low step at the front door. One bathroom has a walk-in shower and the other has a tub and shower; grab bars are not installed. There are exterior security cameras at the property. There are no cameras inside the home. What is the cancellation policy? Most people picture the beach, and the beach is genuinely good — two miles of clean sand behind a white wave wall. But the city is really built around water: the Atlantic on one side, the Intracoastal running the length of it, and a web of canals and the New River threading downtown, which is why locals call it the Venice of America. Turtle Nest Bungalow sits in the middle of it, a private pool home a short drive from almost everything below. ## Where Fort Lauderdale sits Fort Lauderdale is the seat of Broward County, roughly halfway between Miami (about 30 miles south) and Palm Beach (about 45 miles north). That central position is the practical reason to base here: you can do a Miami day and a Palm Beach day from the same house without moving hotels. The city proper runs from the beach and the barrier island west across the Intracoastal into a grid of leafy neighborhoods, with downtown and the New River at its heart. The nest is in the Victoria Park area, central enough that the beach, the boulevard, the airport and the train station are all short drives rather than expeditions. ## Getting here Almost everyone arrives through Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International (FLL) , which is about 15 minutes from the house — one of the shortest airport-to-door hops of any major Florida city. Miami International is the larger alternative about 45 minutes south. If you would rather not fly the last leg, Brightline's higher-speed train links Fort Lauderdale's downtown station to Miami, Aventura, Boca Raton, West Palm Beach and Orlando. The closest patch of sand to the nest is Las Olas Oceanside Park , where the boulevard meets the ocean. For reefs close enough to swim to, drive fifteen minutes north to Lauderdale-by-the-Sea ; for a long flat boardwalk with cafes, head twenty minutes south to the Hollywood Beach Broadwalk . The water taxi is a hop-on, hop-off way to see the mansions and megayachts of the Intracoastal, and the Jungle Queen riverboat has cruised the New River since 1935. Miami is a 30-minute train ride, Palm Beach about the same going north, and the Everglades are 30 to 40 minutes west. With an early start you can reach the Florida Keys , though that one is better as an overnight. ## When to visit The prime stretch is roughly November through April: mild, dry and sunny, and also the busiest and priciest. May and November are the sweet spots for good weather with fewer crowds and lower rates. Summer is hot and humid with afternoon storms, and hurricane season officially runs June through November.
